Yesterday, the Chicago-based PRO-LIFE ACTION LEAGUE and its national director are calling on Notre Dame University President, Rev. John Jenkins, to withdraw his invitation to Barack Obama to deliver a commencement address there on May 17.

"Over the first two months of his administration, Barack Obama has established himself as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history," said League National Director Joe Scheidler, himself a graduate of Notre Dame, a Catholic university. "My alma mater should not be providing a platform for this president."

"Starting from his first week in office, President Obama has enacted a string of executive orders, appointments and policy decisions that contradict Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life -- a teaching that Notre Dame is supposed to uphold," said Scheidler.

Some of the pro-abortion actions Obama has taken in just two months in office, Scheidler lists:

• Overturning of the Mexico City Policy, which had prohibited U.S. funds from being used to promote or provide abortions overseas

• Working to overturn conscience protections for healthcare workers, forcing them to cooperate in abortion or risk losing their jobs

• Appointing pro-abortion Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, who has close ties to late-term abortionist George Tiller, to head the Department of Health and Human Services

• Dedicating federal funds to harvest embryonic stem cells for research at the expense of the most defenseless members of the human family

Scheidler is calling on concerned Catholics, especially Notre Dame alumni, to contact Jenkins and urge him to withdraw the Obama invitation.

Better late then never. Also, another thing that could have been done differently.

" Four weeks after the nation's worst environmental disaster, the Obama administration saw no need to accept offers of state-of-the-art skimmers, miles of boom or technical assistance from nations around the globe with experience fighting oil spills.
That time has come.

In the past week, the United States submitted its second request to the European Union for any specialized equipment to contain the oil now seeping onto the Gulf of Mexico's marshes and beaches, and it accepted Canada's offer of 9,842 feet of boom. The government is soliciting additional boom and skimmers from nearly two dozen countries and international organizations.

In late May, the administration accepted Mexico's offer of two skimmers and 13,779 feet of boom a Dutch offer of three sets of Koseq sweeping arms, which attach to the sides of ships and gather oil and eight skimming systems offered by Norway.

"As we understand what we need and identify domestic and foreign sources, we will act," said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley, who said the United States has received 21 aid offers from 17 countries and four international groups. "We are maintaining contact with these countries, we are grateful for the offers, and we will take them up on these offers."

But some lawmakers and outside experts are questioning whether the administration has been too slow to capitalize on these offers "

Is the Democratic Party’s superdelegate system unfair to voters?

Among the reasons for the historic nature of the 2008 Democratic primary race was the attention paid to the “superdelegates”. The competitiveness of the primary and the important role the superdelegates played has led to calls for reform. This paper develops a formal model that explains why superdelegates selected one candidate over the other and why some superdelegates committed early in the primary season while others waited. Hypotheses are tested using an original dataset collected during the 2008 Democratic primary. The results suggest that although some superdelegates made their decision based on personal, idiosyncratic factors, for many superdelegates, Democratic voters played the most important role in their commitment process.

► Superdelegate commitment behavior in 2008 was not random or unpredictable, but followed a regular and predictable pattern. ► Most superdelegates were attempting to coordinate with their constituents when making their commitment decision. ► Those that waited did so because they were uncertain about who their voters preferred in the Democratic presidential primary race. ► The results have implications for elite behavior during the campaign. ► Even when superdelegates are important, voters are still the most important actors when selecting a presidential nominee.

The updated schedule for Tea Party events in Washington State is here.

Liberty Belle's email re: the Olympia/Seattle combined event follows:

Tax Day Tea Party 2010!
Hello! It is my sincere pleasure to invite each and every one of you to 2010's Tax Day Tea Parties! There are so many good people working hard to create great events, and if you can, I recommend going to two if possible! Sally has done a fabulous job of collecting all of the info about various tea parties, so rather than list them all here, making this a very long email, I would like to point you toward http://teapartywa.org/ TaxDay2010.php.

In this email, I will list the "Tea for Two" tea parties in Olympia and Seattle, as most of the recipients on my list live in those areas. But please don't forget to check out http://teapartywa.org/ TaxDay2010.php to find a tea party in your own area. Other tea parties that we know of will be taking place in Anacortes, Bellevue, Bellingham, Everett, Moses Lake, Okanogan, Prosser, Sequim, Snohomish, Spokane, Tri-Cities/Richland, Walla Walla, Clarkston/Lewiston, and Yakima.

Make sure to scroll through for the special notes on safety and signs!

Transportation : For carpool, shuttle, and parking information - http://teapartywa.org/Tea4Two. php
Bring : Signs, CAMERAS, something to sit on if you need it, clothing for any type of weather, etc.
Extra info : If you are attending the Seattle event after the Olympia event, you will have plenty of time to find parking and grab a bite to eat before the program begins at 5:30 p.m. Directly across the street from the park is Westlake Mall where there is a very large food court, with every type of food you can imagine! So make sure to head on down to the Seattle Tea Party!

Because of the tea party movement's incredible growth and passion, we have become a force in American politics. Due to this, our rallies this year will be attended by media and I am guessing, by counter protesters. I am working closely with the Seattle Police Department, and the Pierce County Tea Party organization is working closely with Capitol Police to ensure your safety and your family's safety. We aim to have a safe, fun, patriotic event, and the police are well aware of all plans to disrupt.

A special note about the possible disruptors : There has been a lot of internet chatter about infiltrating our crowd holding racist signs or making horrible and racist comments to the media in order to discredit our movement - the racism they wish existed does not actually exist so they must therefore MAKE IT UP! - because we command attention and we are getting things done, and since they have no facts or logic to win their arguments, they are resorting to lies, slander, and outright fraud. Are you surprised? I'm not.

THE SOLUTION : If you see someone with a racist sign, someone acting in a suspicious manner, or someone trying to provoke or instigate violence, please be sure to let one of our security personnel know and they will liason with the Police, or if you are near a Police Officer, let them know directly. And remember, if a disruptor near you starts yelling something awful, the best retort is to chant, and here are some good ones:

"USA!! USA!!"
"Repeal and Replace! Repeal and Replace!"
"No new taxes! No new taxes!"
"What do we want? Freedom! When do we want it? NOW!"
"Remember in November! Remember in November!"

Please DO NOT respond to any provocation by the left. We are principled and law abiding people, and they seek to bring us down to their level when they try to provoke negative reactions from us. If someone attempts to provoke you, just ignore them and get back to the event, or better yet, film them being obnoxious. Remember, the Police are there for a reason - to ensure our safety and to enforce our permit - so please let them do their job and you enjoy the events!

Also, if you have a camera of any sort, please bring it and use it!! The best defense we have against the lies and provocations are our cameras. Citizen journalists unite!!

If you are looking for sign ideas, there are 101 great ones at http://bit.ly/EKv1c, which are actually ideas from last year, but they still work! There are more at http://bit.ly/2yTPwX and at the Tea Party Patriots website at http://bit.ly/aE3od1.

If you have any questions at all, please contact me at [email protected] com or Sally at [email protected]

This year's Tax Day Tea Party promises to be bigger and better than last year's and we want to see all of your smiling faces there! It is going to be an incredible day! Thank you for joining us!

In Liberty, now and forever,

About counter-protesters/disruptors/anarchists/Purple People Beaters: While I will be armed for self-defense, and I expect that anyone who regularly reads this blog would be as well, it is always best to avoid or defuse a confrontation before it can escalate. Ignore anyone trying to goad you into a confrontation, especially if it seems that "they" could use it for purposes contra our goals. If you see someone near you getting into a shouting match, help them out--out of the situation. DO NOT. however, do so by trying to intimidate or threaten, or appear to threaten, violence against their antagonist.

Last year a young man "open carried" at the Tax Day Tea Party in Seattle with "OC" becoming such a political football this year I, personally, would advise against it.

This is a highly cynical act, contemptuous of the Church’s prophetic voice in civil society and wagering that there will be no retribution. If a midwestern school seeks attention by granting Mr. Obama an honorary doctorate in law, the next logical step would be to grant Judas Iscariot posthumously an honorary doctorate in business administration.

— Fr. George W. Rutler is a Catholic priest in New York.

Bernie Madoff has declined an honorary doctorate in economics from the University of Notre Dame, but all is not lost. Barack Hussein Obama, enabler in chief of abortion, has agreed to speak at the 2009 commencement and to receive an honorary doctorate of law. That abortion and its advocacy violate a primary precept of natural law reinforced by the Catholic Church’s explicit doctrine is a mere bagatelle. Wackos of all kinds will kick up a fuss, of course, but their protest will go unnoticed in South Bend. The pell-mell pursuit of warm and fuzzy Catholicism will continue. How better to defend the faith than to celebrate a man who advocates polishing off babies even after they are born? The newly created Herod Award will be added to the university’s recognition of the chief magistrate. Administrators are hugging themselves with delight at this massive publicity coup. The national championship in football has eluded Notre Dame for many years, but when the president dribbles onto the stage at the great event, the hall will erupt in ecstatic applause the president, Father Jenkins, will wring his hand and a final nail will be driven into the coffin of a once-great Catholic university. No one will note nor long remember what Barack Obama says on the occasion. Who listens to commencement addresses? But the Lady atop the golden dome, recalling the flight into Egypt, will exhibit one of her many titles: She who weeps.

— Ralph McInerny, professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, is author of the Father Dowling mystery series.

Notre Dame’s decision to make President Obama its 2009 commencement speaker is a very bad thing. It’s bad for Notre Dame, bad for Catholic moral witness in America, and bad for the bishops who are trying to mount a defense against the Obama administration’s assault on the conscience rights of Catholic health-care professionals.

The invitation to deliver a commencement address, especially when coupled with the award of an honorary degree, is not a neutral act. It’s an act by which a Catholic institution of higher learning says, “This is a life worth emulating according to our understanding of the true, the good, and the beautiful.” It is frankly beyond my imagining how Notre Dame can say that of a president who has put the United States back into the business of funding abortion abroad a president who made a mockery of the very idea of moral argument in his speech announcing federal funding for embryo-destructive stem cell research a president whose administration and its congressional allies are snatching tuition vouchers out of the hands of desperately poor Washington, D.C., children who just as desperately want to attend Catholic schools.
As to Lenin’s question, “What, then, is to be done?,” one does not risk a charge of cynicism by suggesting that the most effective advocates for Notre Dame’s recovering its senses will be alumni and other donors capable of withdrawing or withholding contributions in the range of seven, eight, or nine figures. That is the sad state to which things have descended under the Golden Dome: moral argument seems to be unavailing with the leaders of an institution dedicated to developing the arts of moral reason.

— George Weigel holds the Willia m E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies at the Ethics and Public Policy Center.

Team Owner

You aren't reading anything. He had the senate and the house even though Democratic Senators were voting against the Judges he was nominating? That was in the first link I gave you. How many of Trumps republicans are voting against his Judges?

You said in a stupid attempt at bipartisanship when Bipartisanship has nothing to do with this. He nominates a judge and they vote. There's no real reaching across the isle or "bipartisanship" in that process. He did not run his judges through Republican approval before submitting them, so your claim of bipartisanship is a 100% lie. You are literally pulling that out of your ass.

Then you are using percentages without wanting to account for the whole, as if a percentage means anything without knowing what its a percent of.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt but NOW you are doubling down on stupidity here. In light of me literally linking you the facts, instead of being upset at white Democrats voting against his judges to block them (which is what I expected you to do, because at least that makes sense. What good is a majority when your side votes against you) you instead came here and just threw out a bunch of nonsense and accused me of moving the goalposts?

Im going back to my initial opinion. People this ignorant are hopeless. You cannot help them understand because they have no desire to.

Yep this is what really sunk Obamas judges. Snake ass white Democrats voting against him and his policy to appease their voters back home in whiteyland.

That shit sabotaged the couple of years he had. Where he should have been able to ram through judges and legislation, instead he was left looking stupid as his own side stonewalled half of the shit he tried to do. Then those Dems STILL LOST THEIR SEATS leading to Republican control.

A whole ass mess. Thats why so many people dont trust many Democrats today.

bipartisanship was a comment on his overall attempts at reaching across the isle.

There is literally no defence for filling so little spots in his first 2 years even with the opposition in his own party.
His whole admin is a lesson in capitulation

EPA Surrenders to NRA on Gun Control Issue
EPA rejects attempt to regulate lead in bullets after NRA protests
By Paul Bedard
Posted: August 27, 2010

In a swift and unexpected decision, the Environmental Protection Agency today rejected a petition from environmental groups to ban the use of lead in bullets and shotgun shells, claiming it doesn't have jurisdiction to weigh on the controversial Second Amendment issue. The decision came just hours after the Drudge Report posted stories from Washington Whispers and the Weekly Standard about how gun groups were fighting the lead bullet ban.

The EPA had planned to solicit public responses to the petition for two months, but this afternoon issued a statement rejecting a 100-page request from the Center for Biological Diversity, the American Bird Conservancy, and three other groups for a ban on lead bullets, shot, and fishing sinkers. The agency is still considering what to do about sinkers.

The decision was a huge victory for the National Rifle Association which just seven days ago asked that the EPA reject the petition, suggesting that it was a back door attempt to limit hunting and impose gun control. It also was a politically savvy move to take gun control off the table as the Democrats ready for a very difficult midterm election.

The NRA has spent two years tracking down rumors that the Obama administration wants to impose gun and ammo bans on the public, but hasn't found anything credible. While the lead ban was viewed initially as a substantial chance for the administration to move into challenging the Second Amendment, the swift rejection by the EPA settled concerns inside NRA headquarters today.
